A 4x4 is (re)born
After 10 years of making 2cv4x4's a Sahara replica an Ami 6 service toléé with Mehari 4x4 technics I started to make the ultimate 4x4 2cv (at least for me)......
This is now 10 years ago.
But then it happens; a girlfriend (witch is now my wife) an old barn (witch is now my house) and 10 years went by.
But now I picking it up.
The ultimate 4x4 2cv.
2cv 4x4's are very good in the terrain, the only thing is going over a hill, the chassis lays in the middle at the ground and your'e stuck.
So this is what I want(ed) to make;
I've made the chassis for the Ami service by myself but it is much overdone..
(too strong and too heavy) so the new chassis is going to be a lightweight.
As you can see, behind the front axle the chassis is going up for 11cm, the back axle go's underneeth the chassis, in the middle you have 11cm more ground-clearance. The drifshaft is going through the chassis like a Mehari 4x4 does too. The rear axle is a front axle flipped 180 degrees, linked to a coilover spring (push insted of pull).
So after more then 10 years today I digged out the chassis witch I already started to make. A little bit rusty but nothing seriously.
Iv'e already started making a transferbox too, all made of standard 2cv parts and steel plate/tube welded together.
I bought an old lathe and gave it a go.
The nicest thing about the transferbox is when you engage 4.gear it pops out of 4x4 automaticly!!!!
The back gearbox I did already 12 years ago, is already in working order.
So now you've seen everything I've got already,
this will be this winters project so hopefully I can go to France (wm2011) with it..
