A mate of mine has been asking how suitable a 2CV is for a hill climb / trials car. Of course i said perfect!

I dont really understand the rules or the classes. I said for him to join us and explain the requirements.

Anyone know anything about this car or the drivers?

I remember reading about hill climbs in a 2CV somewhere and some 2CVs used a 4 box for lower gearing. The wheel on the bonnet added extra weight over the front axle. Tyre pressures were also lowered and the car stripped out to make it as light as possible.

2CVs were pretty good as I remember it...

Hi, my 2cv 4x4 and I have been on some hill trials... Unfortunetly we have the higher ratio gearboxes which means when you stop on a steep hill it's hard to restart!!
Before we started dad gave it a big rev we tried going up on max throttle etc for as long as it would last and it just ran out of power about 10 meters from the top of the hill!! There was alot of spectators and it was a very wet day, so we thought our 2cv 4x4 has to get to the top of the hill no matter what, so Dad revved it so much we almost burnt the clutch out!! i have never seen so much smoke come from any 2cv engine in my life lol and we managed just to struggle up the rest of the hill inch by inch...
I would recommend for hill climbing a visa engine and the lower boxes as Mark suggested up ther ^^.
here are some videos of the hill not of the 2cv 4x4 though :( . ( it is a lot steep than it looks!!)

It is a second car to go up the hill which is the 2cv (2wd)

And here is the link to what fifth gear did.
The hill my 2cv 4x4 went up was simms, at 7min:27 on the video (the toughest hill to get up out of any hill around south devon) the beetle didnt manage to conquer the hill and luckily my 2cv managed to get up it on the same wet conditions aswell.

Are you allowed to use the 4x4 or do you have to disengage it for the trial?
