Hey Lads,
I have never tried deep fording in a 2cv but by all accounts one must remove the cooling fan or risk throwing blades :( . Granted the fan is moving at a great speed and under a lot of stresses, but has anyone come up with a way to get around this issue WITHOUT stopping to remove the fan.......???

It is a question that has been puzzling me for ages... :)

Answers on a postcard to........

i remember somewhere a writeup about a fan with a magnetic clutch, so that it can be stopped/slowed down for fording? i seem to remember a youtube video which i can't find right now.

I think it may be SubaruPete who's got the clutch on his fan, and yes, there is a youtube vid of it somewhere. The other way is to wrap tarpaulin around the fan opening, Viking put pics up somewhere around here, it does mean stopping to fit it, but it's quicker than removing the fan.

when we go in deep water sometimes put an old car mat in front in between the bonnet and the fan so it stays in place. i wouldnt bother taking the fan off or putting a car mat in front for a ford!
heres a video of mine in water and with the fan on and no mat i forgot it!

I've seen your vid before, very good stuff......I assume the teeth stayed put???

well theres more important things to get than taking the fan off.

123 ignition

raised pipe but thats just for wading in deep water

harley coil - much better spark

not to rev it to much going in to the ford and DONT let it stall.

and yes the blades always stay put.
but a DG ignition apparently is more water resistant.
pete subaru/polo posted a video and showed a really good way or making it water resistant but filing washers.. it might still be on here somewhere
