Re: Make Your Own ....2CV.... 4x4
eh like the on going jobs
as a note 2cv starter spacing is different to visa so u may need to space the starter back a bit
so best to do a starter test run before going too far in bolting down etc
i think u may need to add 5 mm spacer to sort it out

Lou, Ta for Starter Motor info. Question RE props..... Can fit 1 long one (tight fit) but in a straight line. Fit two shorter ones but........ should props run in a straight line? Polopete

Seating in a 2CV is quite cosy, this will be more so... Attachment:

Re: Make Your Own ....2CV.... 4x4
I prefer a straight line, because 1 or more bearings + fixationpoint(s) less, + less friction especially noticable at the high speed props but keep in mind when a engine or gearbox rocks (moving under torc) the prop can move sideways easely more then 2cm. !! try to keep the angle between the 2 propends as small as possible, because stress rises quickly when the angles are getting bigger.... I think you know what I mean, when not I make a drawing..... http://www.2cv4x4.nl/historie/BLAD_2x.htm

Hi Lpgo,
Like the Mehari, lots.. 2 props is probably the optimum solution, certainly gives space for any movement

Re: Make Your Own ....2CV.... 4x4
Eh pete re prop
10 degrees max angle on joint
and a sliding joint is necessary if you expect a bit of stretch movement you could weld up a test one
I welded Bob's propshaft 7 years ago and its still going!!
just test at a low speed first!!
i use 1140 series props similar to all small old UK cars triumph herald
also early 2cv share the same UJ

Re: Make Your Own ....2CV.... 4x4
Simple jobs this week. Put Flywheel and Clutch on Engine, Put gearbox on engine. . Test Rotate by hand as you do.... . . . I now have a system with 8 reverse and 2 forward gears! I had ASSUMED the output pinion shaft rotated in the same direction as the engine!
