Do we need one for Morocco?

To my knowledge no. I dont know anyone who has had it and when searching the internet i get the impression that it still isn't neccesary.
Unfortunately the the Morocanien embassy in denmark is very hard to get in to contact with.

In the past the immigration officers were very keen for you to purchase State Insurance to cover your trip. It wasnt much. half of our group had Mediterrainian countries cover which was pretty normal for French insurance companies

A Group "Discount" special price was agreed and the bribe / fee was paid at the immigration post in Mellilia took nearly 4 hours of browbeating and shouting before we set off on our way

as far as i was concerned i travelled without insurance

Oficially EU Green card can be extended to Morrocco and Tunisia, but UK raiders dont be surprised if Directline and the likes throw a wobbly.

As important, you must take your Vo5 logbook, "Carte Grise" which was much more important to the immigration and the police at random stops (we were in the disputed Algerian bit)

For my Cameroon trip this Christmas I have spent a day trying to find a UK based insurance company that will issue a Green Card certificate for Morocco and its virtually impossible now. The only company that would help were Co-operative insurance but you would have had to have a policy with them for at least a year. We will be sorting it at the port on arrival which I believe is doable.

I believe a carnet is only needed in Ghana, Senegal and Eygpt in North and West Africa. We need one for Nigeria because they like to make your life more difficult.. (its not an offical requirement apparently)

As Sean says, it was more difficult NOT to buy it at the port (Ceuta in our case)...

Moroccan insurance didn't cover us for Mauritania. A very nice man came to our campsite and relieved us all of cash for very suspicious looking paper.

Mauritanian insurance didn't cover us for Senegambia. A very large lady at the border crossing relieved us all of cash for very suspicious looking paper. Ours expired whilst we were in the Gambia, which caused a police checkpoint to threaten to confiscate our car. This debate was eventually settled amicably, with a packet of ciggies proving adequate not just for that immediate "fine", but with a very enthusiastic assurance that if anybody else tried it on, we should tell them that we were his friends and to be allowed free passage... I think we might have over-paid...



We met a British guy in Nouakchott who'd been turned back from the Senegalese border despite having a Carnet for his full-prep Disco. At that time, the Senegalese had just brought in a new law which forbade any used car over 10yo from entering the country, even to transit through. It took considerable application of cash to get a customs guy to agree to escort us through to the Gambian border.

I think a Carnet probably falls into the "It might be required in theory, but the absence is something you can easily work around with your new best friends - whilst the presence of one won't help much if you get 'em on a bad day..." category.

Unfortunately we need a Carnet because you can't get a visa in the UK until they have seen the carnet.. its all rubbish of course.

I forgot to take the signed forms and photos in to the Mauritanian embassy. Fortunately, I'd got the passports - and, even more importantly, the CASH... That was fine. Just post the photos in, and fill in new forms. Umm, Ellie's signature? Oh, don't worry about that...
