Daily travel times
We have to remember that the raid is not a race but a holiday. The daily driving time will surely vary due to different road conditions. Here is a rough schedule Daily departure from camp 8.00 Coffee break 10.00 Lunch 12.00-13.00 Afternoon break 15.00 Arriving at camp 17.00 In between sight seeing etc. Break downs Time to service and repair cars at camp. Catch up with other raiders etc. Adding 2 or 3 rest days during the raid has proven to be much needed. No driving just plain boring duties like washing, cleaning shopping, drinking and talking, having fun around the campfire

The "You've got x days to travel y,000 miles - get going!" thing is what's put me off events like the Mongol Rally. It's a holiday! To somewhere INTERESTING that I'm unlikely to go again! I want to see it!

Re: Daily travel times
That makes about 18 days driving 7 hous a day that's a total of 136 hours of driving. Meaning a traveldistance in Africa betwen 5.500 and 6.800 km seen from my point of wiev.

Re: Daily travel times
Track condition would dictate the daily distance. Maybe some days, we can only move 50 km other days 300 km If we work around daily rolling time and not aim and rush to a set amount of kilometers, it should be easier to organize?

I agree, just making calculation about what distance we can expect to cover. I've got no intention on insisting going 300 km a day when we are driving on narrow or no tracks, but if you don't estimate a travelspeed according to the conditions you wont be abel to plan the trip of the day.
