Well, looking at the worst case scenario, if someone does succumb to some drastic medical catastrophy, since much of the country is sandy, it should make digging a grave fairly easy.

I must say that I would be happy to have a doc there if I got sick but if i was travelling alone this would not be an opportunity.
I do not expect this raid to provide me more security than what comes from travelling with more cars and people.
It is possibel to learn extended first aid for use under extreme conditions. My brother who lives in Norway and does a lot of skiing in places without cellphone contact, has learned somthing about what you can do under eksreme conditions, that kind off knowlegde is recomendable for some off us.

With the recent developments in North Africa(kidnapping/killing), is it such a good idea to risk one's life and limbs, when the UK Foreign Office advise not to visit North Africa? Just a thought.

They don't.

They advise against travel to some parts of Mali, all-but-essential travel to Mauritania and some parts of Algeria. The rest of North Africa's fine.

Don't forget that it was Mauritanian bad boys that moved the Paris-Dakar to South America...

Anyway, surely you weren't expecting a nice package tour to the Costa del Sun Lounger, were you? Where's your balls, man?

I'm sure the name "Rupert Potts" won't be heard in the same way as "Edwin Dyer" is being at the mo... Probably. Maybe. Anyway, that was the other side of Mali.

Can you leave me the 4x4 in your will, please?

As much as I would like to go to Timbuktu, I think we will give this a wide berth.
I forgot about Edwin to be honest. Good job I'm not in charge of the route planning.
