Just mentioning it, have no personal experience. Discuss it!

The metal original plate isn't a great deal of use in Morrocco where its either big rocks, medium rocks or soft feche-feche (with hidden rocks)

same plate made from 2-3mm steel or 3mm Dural plate is protection.

I used the pattern in "Ici Comence..." and had to remove the plate and hammer it back in to shape every night.

Crawling is your friend.
Samme terrain down under (2008) my original plate only touched once during a washout passing. Otherwise no problems, speed is the killer not the plate

Much better than original or no plate at all.
The plate will not protect the muffler, which is normally hammered to pieces unless you are careful.

Perhaps another plate behind it?

No need for that, just slow down. I didn't hit my muffler at all. Others the same, some replaced muffler once others twice.

2 plates of metal aren't as stiff as a bit of metal twice as thick-ideally you want the stiffer option.

In Morocco you will hit rocks no matter how slowly you drive

If Morocco could export rocks it would be a very rich country indeed, put away images of sailing over flat gravel regs marveling at the dunes. Go down to where they have demolished a building and drive over that....that's Morocco!

Erasmo,
it's difficult to find 'T' section steel nowadays, as recommended in 'Ici commence', however I used angle section for this undertray on the car which led Raid Australia back in 2000.

Four years prior to that, I'd made a similar fitting for the Acadiane which Peta used for the Raid in 1996, after which she drove back to the UK, arriving in Holland just in time for the 1997 World Meeting.

On a flat road the muffler is generally the lowest point of the car and is usually the first point to be hit.

The speed your traveling affects your abilty identify and dodge these obstacles. Your speed also affects the amount of damage you do.

I have a rolled semi-circular shaped bash-plate that fits under the muffler which needs a little reshaping after every trip.

Some thought should be given to the strength of bashplates, they should be light enough to deform readily well before the chassis does.
