 Re: Tools and Spares

 Re: Tools and Spares
viking
id add a few to the list and loose some
Water only jerrycan 10l min MUST be carried by all cars and be full ( especially as your heading off in the hot summer months) small water bottle, cloth covered always available to driver sand plates of some sort( some of the smaller oueds have steep sides and are bottomless feche feche( bull dust)
I took a plastic washing up bowl which was great for washing the airfilter
points and condenser new and ready fitted/gapped in points box
fuel pump
plugs and lead
helicoil set( 1 per raid)
compass, you cant take a bearing with a gps....it only tells you where you are
its also worth thinking about flares for getting lost, and a set time for firing we had 9pm, its quite re assuring when the raid got split and we couldnt make the rendevous and thought we were lost , at 9pm our parties flare went up - then the other party set theres off and were only a bout 10k away joined them for breakfast the next day

If the coil, points, plugs, fan belt, alternator etc etc is new or near new, there is no need to carry these spares. One problem is parts falling off the car during the raid but checking every single, screw, bolt and nuts should eliminate that. Some people prefer to be independent caring their own parts and to fix their own car, no worries as long as you bring a complete set of tool. The TEC team (Tail End Charlie) will also have what’s needed. Some ideas here. In no particular order: Tent Extra long solid pecks Chairs Table Torch Cooking gear Lighter Good solid pocket knife Sleeping gear incl pillows Insulating underlay Warm cloth Camera Tools & Spares Small good quality socket set 3/8 drive from 8mm-21mm (including spark plug socket 21mm) Spanners open ring 8mm-19mm + extra 11mm Fan removal tool Screwdriver set Hammer small Pliers: multi grip, cut off, etc. Feeler gauge Telescopic magnet Test lamp or multi meter Grease gun small incl grease Tow rope Good quality tie down rope Wheel nut tool Jack including wooden base 20x20x3mm Fuel hose Spare keys Small roll of electrical cable and terminal connectors Assortment: bolt, nuts, screws, washers, pins, clips, splits, clamps etc. Shovel Spare rim with good tyre on it. 1 extra tyre and 3 tubes 135-145/15 2 tyre levers Pump, electrical 12 v 12V Fridge Toothbrush (cut in half) Sunblock Hat Billy, sugar and tea. Engine & Gear oil Ice-cream containers for clean up and small brush Bucket Hand cleaner Rags Rubber gloves, disposable Wheel nuts Cable straps First aid kit Scissors Jerry cans plastic, not metal Funnel Hold down straps Cloth line "Duck tape" and insulation tape WD 40 spray small bottle 12v fuses min 10amp Brake fluid Tarp for rivercrossings.
Feel free to add to the list. Thank you lots for your effort, this gives a good generous idea of what I need.

Sean Thanks Sean I've added the water to the list The other items will be in the back up van Good idea with the flares and compass. I hope we won't need it. We should all have UHF radio on board allowing first and last car to reach each other. If/when bogged in sand, pushing is your friend. The risk of getting bogged 2 seconds later is huge.

Thanks for the list.. a great starting point and I'm sure everyone with have there must take additional items. I'm off on a exotic Raid around the M25 next week and the ready supply of water is a must

 Re: Tools and Spares
Keep a watchful eye out for the beasts that the M25 was built to keep enclosed, they're a wild, totally undomesticated rabble. You are very, very brave getting that close to London Safari Reserve. Rather you than me, that's all I can say.

 Re: Tools and Spares
Added to the list is Insect repellent to both skin and clothing. The most effective repellents are those containing N,N-diethylmetatoluamide (DEET). (See Protection against Mosquitoes and Other Arthropods.) Lifted from this web site. http://www.medic8.com/travel/dengue-fever.htmYet to be comfirmed from Danish TV news that this particular Mosquito has been spotted in southen France.
