True, though the dilemma seems to be to take a tired car and make it good or a nice resorted car and mess it up! |

There's no dilemma, if you take a cheap tired car you repair everything, get to know it inside out and know its all new and good, buying something shiny just ensures you pay a lot of money for a car you know nothing about. |

roll cage just adds weight why would it be more prone to falling over abroad as opposed to here? a good chassis wont need strengthening ...im talking SLC, an engine tray and a fuel tank guard. done! |

Good chassis is the answer and a MUST Reinforcing a standard chassis is not always the best. as it quite often does not add strength in the correct places Do not believe everything in Ici commence le adventure! I do build special raid chassis but at a cost! minimum weight is a must Less is more is always the best solution, and No add ons as these bits always give trouble Do not add extra fuel tanks Take 10 litre Steel jerry cans if needed as they are strong and Cheap. and place all heavy items if possible in front of the rear wheels so as to have a balanced car I always recommend AK running gear as the rear arms and cross tubes are (thicker) stronger if you propose to carry spares / more weight etc or for just a minimum car 2cv rolling gear is OK as many have said Good preparation is the key Pony |

Make it yourself but just remember that every bolt (sic) you use to hold on a shock absorber is a bolt you will have put in yourself
