Citroen did produce an article about this, which 2cvgb reproduced in a members handbook, anybody got a copy they can scan? I know i dont!

It's interesting reading, well worth a look, hopefully somebody can reply to this with a more useful reply than mine.....

Edit, nice one Ashton!

Post Re: Raid car preparation
I did have a hand in repairing the car Eleanor Chubb used to do the Toureag trail in 2007, it was very tired and quite rotten, I don't recall a lot of strengthening in the car beside the roll cage (which I wasn't too sure was upto it). I welded som stronger 50x50 rsa down the sills and to the cage mounting points, and added a crossbar under the drivers feet braced to the chassis, although it must be said, most of this was simply to hold the shell together as it was a state than actually make a good shell stronger.

Still, have some pictures.

I'm not sure I'd even bother with a cage.

It's a lot of extra weight, for no real benefit, unless you're driving wrongly and at risk of rolling it. Any dodgy terrain, you really should be going as carefully as possible.

Make sure it's got an excellent chassis, strengthen the suspension arms, and add some underside protection. Basically, listen to ICL'A. Citroen knew what they were talking about.

I think this is over the top. Reinforcing the chassis is a waste of time unless the chassis is in bad condition. We have seen reinforced chassis still bending on Raids in Australia, simply because the stress just transfer somewhere else. A good standard chassis needs to flex, preventing it from doing just that, will break it somewhere else. We have seen again and again standard 2cvs completing many raids in Australia without problems. We have also seen many strengthen chassis and swing arms snapping right open simply because they are too stiff.

Roll cage, no way, there is no need for that unless you drive like an idiot, ignoring the road condition. It may look fancy, yes but it should not be compulsory to fit it.
